Finn Ashworth VIP visit to see Giant Pacific Octopus Hank at Sea Life

Date published: 17 February 2016

Finn Ashworth, along with dad Martin Ashworth, mum Rhi Lloyd, and his aunt Claire Blanthorn had VIP invitations to say hello to the brand new exhibition Octopus Hideout and Giant Pacific Octopus, Hank at Sea Life, on Saturday 13 February.

Martin said: “We had a belting morning at the Sea Life Centre, there's plenty of different things to see and lots of things that children and adults can relate to.

“Finn enjoyed collecting all the stamps as we made our way through the centre, he also liked to look at the different fish and relate them to films he had seen.

“The sea tunnel gives you an underwater view of the sharks, rays and turtle and Finn didn't want to leave!

“The indoor play area provides a place for children to have a run around while parents have rest.

“We moved on to the new Octopus, he was a little shy, the instructor said that the Octopus was very intelligent but also not very used to people, once he's settled in he'll be knocking about for everyone to see him.”

Hank is one of the biggest octopus species in the world, the Giant Pacific Octopus can weigh up to 50 kilograms and can grow to a huge five metres in length. In addition to its jaw-dropping size, these invertebrates are unbelievably smart; solving mazes and opening jars, disguising themselves along the way by matching their skin to the colour, pattern and texture of the environment surrounding them. They can even grow spikes in a fraction of a second.
