It’s a virtual reality, as students step into video game

Date published: 17 February 2016

Tutors from Hopwood Hall College have been developing a video game as part of their Master’s degree coursework and students have been playing the part of their real-life ‘characters’.

Creative Media course tutors Amy Miedzwiecki, Alex Dobson and Joni Meetoo are all studying part time towards their Masters, alongside teaching.

The trio are working on a collaborative game project as part of their courses. They are also being helped by Joe Heywood, an ex-student who is currently studying Games Design at Huddersfield and is completing his university work experience at Hopwood Hall College.

Amy explains: “We have been getting our students involved to help us with the video game production; one task has been to act out character actions in the game, using motion capture technology to film their movements.

“The College has green screen technology and this was a good opportunity for students to test out the technology.”
