On Saturday (13 February) at 8.00am volunteers arrived at the re-use shop at Smallbridge to load the 40 foot container that will take the donations on a very long journey to the baby home in Tanzania.

The container was loaded with nearly 400 boxes of donations, 10 adult bicycles, 10 wheelchairs for children, a host of SEN equipment and sewing machines.

Food and drink was provided for the volunteers and the loading was completed in two hours.

The container was taken to the freight terminal in Manchester and loaded onto a train bound for Felixstowe, it will leave onboard a ship on Wednesday (17 February) and arrive in Mombassa on the 25 March.

After clearing customs the donations will go on a 1,500k road journey to Mwanza, where they should arrive in early April.

Along with the donations for the baby home in Tanzania, lots of donations were collected and distributed to other local charities including the homeless.

Re-Use Littleborough was set up by Littleborough resident Michael Bamford, he said: "The shop was loaned to Re-Use Littleborough by RBH and will now be handed back.

"The idea of re-using will continue.

“Re-Use Littleborough didn’t cost anyone any money, it was all the things that were unwanted and we achieved all this with no money whatsoever.”

Amy Hathaway‎, from Forever Angels Baby Home, said: “The container is now on its way to Forever Angels Baby Home in Tanzania.

"Thank you so much to Michael Bamford for making this happen you are an absolute superstar. And thank you to everyone to has supported us with donations, we are just overwhelmed at the generosity and kindness.”
