Friends of Honresfeld, local people and friends of the residents and families showed their support for the home on Sunday (14 February) to ask the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity to ‘have a heart’ and think again.

The Honresfeld Leonard Cheshire Disability Care Home in Littleborough has very recently announced that it is to close. This is devastating news for the 22 severely disabled residents who depend on its highly specialised services.

Pat Sanchez said: “The planned closure of the home is causing great distress to residents, staff who will all be made redundant, and residents’ families.

“People’s slogans were varied, but all focused on the ‘Have a Heart’ theme and asked the charity not to make the residents lose their home.

“Some residents have lived at Honresfeld for decades.”

One of the staff said: “This is not just a nursing home, it’s their ‘home’."

Supporters presented the residents with a large Valentine card they had all signed, which said ‘Have a heart! Keep us open!’ which they hoped would encourage and hearten them in the campaign to keep their home.
