Springhill salute volunteers and celebrate a year of Springhill Hospice Tea Room & Gift Shop

Date published: 15 February 2016

Staff at the award winning fundraising venture, Springhill Tea Room & Gift Shop, turned the tables on their team of volunteers to celebrate a year of service at the Broad Lane eatery.

On Thursday 28 January, the doors closed to the general public at the usual time of 3.00pm, however the ovens were kept on to prepare a tasty buffet for the 30+ strong team of front-of-house, gift shop and kitchen volunteers.

Pamela Gray, Tea Room Supervisor, said: “The Tea Room has been a phenomenal success, we’re open seven days a week and busy on every single day. Customers come from miles around not only for a bite to eat and to meet friends but to sample the hospitality of our fantastic team of volunteers.

“Serving in the tea rooms is genuinely hard work, there are times when tables are full and people are still coming through the doors but our volunteers never fluster and are always ready to take orders and serve customers with a Springhill Smile.”

Springhill Tea Room has been a resounding fundraising success with Hospice’s from all over the region keen to follow suit.

Sarah Ford, Springhill’s Income Services Manager said: “On this the Tea Room’s first birthday we are not only celebrating our amazing volunteers, our dedicated customers and the fundraising profits that we’re able to send direct to patient care but we’re also celebrating a business success in the Borough.

“The Tea Rooms is a great example of the community pulling together and of a successful small business employing a couple of local staff to work alongside our fantastic volunteers who have built up and a sustainable, profitable business in Rochdale.

“Thank you to everyone who has given up their time, patronised our tea rooms or bought gifts and cards from the gift shop and a very special thank you to our super volunteers – here’s to another year of culinary delights, customers, profits to Springhill Hospice and of course, cake.”
