Funds raised for Rochdale flood victims by Tameside woman

Date published: 30 January 2016

Angie Wild, from Tameside, saw the Boxing Day floods in Rochdale on the news, and took it upon herself to raise over £1,000 for victims.

Angie told Rochdale Online News how she couldn’t bear reading the headlines that the town was under water on Boxing Day, and has since set up three charity events which have raised funds for Rochdale people who suffered in the floods.

Angie said she was inundated with messages from people eager to help, including 16 entertainers, three venues around the Tameside area, and various raffle collection points.

Now, having raised just over £1000 from charity gigs, raffles and special events, Angie is looking forward to personally handing over the money to the people most in need.
She said: “I could have raised this money and just given it to a charity, but I want to hand it over personally to people, including an older person, a family, and people who are struggling on their own.

“Rochdale is the closest place to us that was devastated by the floods. When I saw on the news what had happened, I decided that I wanted to help. Amazingly, within an hour of posting my idea, I was inundated by messages from local musicians and other people who were eager to help.”
