Olwen Stevenson meets Shadow Chancellor

Date published: 23 January 2016

Olwen Stevenson, Momentum Rochdale, Heywood & Middleton’s Chairwoman, met with John McDonnell, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, at a Labour Party North West meeting in Rossendale this week, kicking off local election campaigning.

Olwen Stevenson said: "We were able to spend some time with John to discuss the issues affecting our local area and how we would be actively involved in campaigning in our community.

"We informed him of our work on both the recent railway renationalisation campaign and getting out on the streets with our petition against council cuts.

"We informed him of our public meeting on 20 February at 2.00pm at St. Chad’s Church to hear public views on the cuts and how we plan to fight against them.

"Although unable to attend himself, due to previous commitments, John will be requesting a representative of National Momentum to speak.

"Local Councillor Chris Furlong will also be giving his views on an issue that will have a massive impact on our community."
