College students make promotional video

Date published: 22 January 2016

Media students have been commissioned by Hopwood Hall College’s marketing department to make a promotional video.

Students were taken off their regular timetable for the first two weeks after Christmas to complete all of the filming. However, the Rochdale campus was affected by the floods and so they lost the first week whilst the clean-up operation was done and only had a week to complete it.

One student in particular has been at the centre of the project; Christopher Chadderton, 17 from Royton in Oldham worked hard from home in the flood week to produce a full production schedule for his classmates. He organised all the filming with different departments across the two campuses and arranged his classmates into production teams; they successfully filmed all the footage in half the time they originally had, thanks to Christopher’s hard work.

Christopher produced and directed the film, whilst fellow student Tom Brook will edit the film. The rest of the class were in small production teams, filming around the College.
The three minute film is entitled: “What does Hopwood mean to you?”

Tutor James Shenton has been really impressed with their professionalism: “The whole class have really thrown themselves into the project, in half the original time given due to the flooding. They have conducted themselves in a very professional manner and I am sure they will do the whole College proud with the final cut.”

“Christopher, especially, has worked his socks off and has impressed all his tutors and his peers with his ideas and commitment to the project from the off.

“Although I found the project stressful at times, I really enjoyed the challenge. I got a taste of what it is like to lead, not only a production, but a whole crew of people.”

“I couldn’t have done it without my classmates help and support as it has been a real team effort. I really hope the College and all who see it will enjoy what we have made.”

The video will be premiered at the College’s Annual Review on 12 February to an invited group of VIPs and guests.
