The Council’s Clean and Green teams have dealt with more than 650 requests to clean up the borough, and they are keen to hear about any jobs that still need doing.
£250,000 was set aside to fund the teams so they could transform eyesores and grot spots around the borough, which was additional to the council’s £2m annual street cleaning budget which is shared between each township of Middleton, Pennines, Heywood and Rochdale.
So far, 671 requests have been received, and the streets are looking a lot brighter, says Rochdale Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Jacqui Beswick. She added: “The teams have been all over the borough de-weeding, clearing footpaths of litter, removing fly-tipping and generally brightening up the streets. The teams respond to requests from the township offices, with clean-up projects happening across the different wards.
"To date the teams have responded to 671 requests to tidy up the borough.
"These areas are not normally maintained by the council, however to create a cleaner, greener borough, the council took the decision to clear these areas.
"A review is currently underway to identify potential funding for the teams to continue their hard work after the end of March.”
