Date published: 21 January 2016

St Cuthbert's girls were delighted to finish in first place and qualify for the Greater Manchester finals at the annual Rochdale Schools Indoor Athletics competition on Tuesday (19 January) evening.

The boys were narrowly pipped to the post and finished in second place.

The event included a wide range of field and track events which test the speed, endurance, strength and agility of our pupils.

There were a number of standout performances from our Year 7’s:

  • Jess Butterworth and Oyinkasola Bello won the 4 lap race.
  • The girls relay squad made up of Leah Green, Grazia Tuanzebe, Jess Butterworth and Oyinkasola Bello won their race with a terrific time.
  • Mackenzie King and Holly Parnum Taylor both gave fantastic performances in the gruelling 6 lap race to win their respective races.
  • Sean McGiveney had a brilliant performance in the Speed bounce completing 71 jumps in 30 seconds.
  • Ralph Assuncao managed to jump an unbelievable 6 metres 50cm in the standing triple jump despite being the shortest member of the team.

The final results were anxiously awaited with the Cuthbert’s team knowing that there had been a lot of strong performances.

A massive well done to all team members who were a real credit to themselves and the school.
