Flood Fest: Musicians raise over £1,700 for flood victims

Date published: 20 January 2016

Local musicians got together on Friday (15 January) for a “wonderfully successful” fund raising gig, to raise money for flood victims.

A number of local acts played for free at the Flood Fest event, which took place at Littleborough Cricket Club, raising a total of £1,725.

Organiser Danny Dearden expressed his delight when he realised that all the seats were taken, with many left standing, and said how pleasing it was to see people come together in times of need.

He added: “It is a wonderfully successful night, there were so many people, all out for a good cause. A lot of people were affected by the floods, and so many people need help. It’s great to see that so many people are willing to give it”.

Acts included local bands Idol Frets and Midnight Hour, along with local singers Bev Pickering, Rebecca Whitehead, Rod Barry, Robin Lee, and some songs from the organiser himself.

Danny said: “I’m a singer myself, so it was good to be able to take part.

"We really are so pleased with the turnout. We are looking forward now to getting the money to those who need it the most.”

Co-organiser Glenn Anchor said: “It was fantastic to have a good turnout, and we thank everyone who was generous enough to take part.”

The money is being sent to Littleborough Conservative Club, where it will be decided on exactly how it is to be distributed.

The floods, which happened on 26 December, affected large parts of the borough, leaving some people with badly-damaged homes. The money will go towards helping those who have lost essential household appliances and/or suffered as a result of the damage.
