Council apologises after failed waste collection

Date published: 20 January 2016

The council has apologised after waste collectors failed three times in 14 weeks to pick up a resident’s waste on assisted collection.

Tony Vose, from Middleton, said he is “disappointed to say the least” that his rubbish has been forgotten so many times, and has asked for local collectors to be more attentive.

He said: “There seems to be a widespread problem with the bin men overlooking people on assisted collection, which means the people who are struggling to get outside are the ones suffering the most.

“It wasn’t just once, it was three times in 14 weeks, that’s a failure rate of over 20%, and I don’t think anyone would agree that it’s acceptable”.

Martin Taylor, Head of Environmental Management, said: “Every week we collect bins from over 88,000 properties across the borough. Households on assisted collections depend on us to collect and empty their bins promptly and we apologise for not collecting them on time from this address. The bins are now scheduled to be emptied on 20 January and the collection service reviewed to ensure this does not happen again.”
