Tour de Rochdale Sixth Form College

Date published: 20 January 2016

Students and staff at Rochdale Sixth Form College recently went head to head in a charity bike race in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Together students and staff at the college cycled the great distance of 86.7km – which is roughly the distance from Rochdale Sixth Form College to Harrogate.

Using two exercise bikes, both teams cycled throughout the day to see who could cover the biggest distance. The competition was tough, students cycled an impressive 39.1km but staff eventually took the winners title, cycling 47.6km.

With the support of students and staff, The Student Union raised £120 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Assistant Principal, Achievement and Improvement, Shaheen Laljee, said: “This is the second time we’ve hosted a charity bike race at the college, it’s always wonderful to see students and staff getting involved with fund raising activities and we were delighted to have raised £120 for such a great cause.”

Maya Akram, member of the Student Union, said: “Competing in the bike race was tiring but well worth the effort as the atmosphere on the day was electric. It was nice seeing both staff and students getting involved in a group activity, it is just a shame we lost this year.”
