Petrus Community get donation from Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund

Date published: 19 January 2016

The Petrus Community, based in Rochdale, has received a £300 donation from the Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund.

Rachel Bennion, Engagement and Development Worker, said: “This donation from the Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund means that we can now purchase outdoor cooking equipment for a community food event. The event will include growing and cooking demonstrations to encourage the community to come together to eat a healthy meal, cooked with ingredients from the allotment.”

Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund spokeswoman Michelle Frost said: “We know that across the UK and Ireland smaller charities and community groups are struggling to make ends meet despite the efforts of a huge number of warm-hearted volunteers.

“We aim to give them a helping hand and hopefully inspire more people to get involved.”

The Petrus Community provides residential and day support services for people with housing needs in Rochdale, Rossendale and Oldham. It offers an advice service, as well as a range of activities to engage with the wider community, gain new skills, and training to increase employment opportunities. One such activity is Petrus Incredible Edible Rochdale (PIER), a community gardening project which includes planting and tending vegetables on the charity’s allotment.

The Fund is open for entries until 28 February and will distribute five £300 awards to deserving recipients every week. Applications can be made on the Galaxy Hot Chocolate website.
