Simba Kuuya jailed for knowingly infecting woman with HIV

Date published: 15 January 2016

Simba Kuuya, 32, of Rhodes Crescent, Rochdale, has been jailed for infecting a woman he met on a dating site with HIV whilst knowing he had the virus.

Kuuya had the virus for four years and kept it a secret from the unnamed victim, who only discovered the news when their relationship had ended and a former partner contacted her.

When confronted about the disease, Kuuya denied it, however the victim got tested and the results came back positive.

Swansea Crown Court heard that although the woman Kuuya infected felt physically well, the diagnosis had had a “devastating” effect on her and her family, and left her feeling angry and upset.

Kuuya was jailed for two years and two months, having pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.
