Police are warning residents about a sudden increase in burglaries to dwellings in the Spotland and Falinge areas. The most affected areas are currently Passmonds, Cutgate and Edenfield Road with incidents occurring late afternoon/early evening on no particular day. Officers state that once again, some of the properties targeted were left insecure which made entry points easy for the thieves. Officers are therefore asking that residents:

  • Ensure your windows and doors are locked even if you’re in which will prevent ‘sneak thieves’.
  • Place your keys out of sight and keep well away from windows and doors as you could fall victim of the ‘hook and cane’ method commonly used in and around Rochdale.
  • Speak to your neighbours - let them know if you’re going out so they can be a look out for you while you’re gone and you can return the favour when they need you.
  • Light up your home before you go out and make it appear occupied, leave a radio or TV on – thieves do not want to be seen.
  • Be vigilant, you know what looks suspicious – let us know as soon as you possibly can.
