Middleton Technology School raises £10,000 for Springhill Hospice

Middleton Technology School has raised £10,000 for Springhill Hospice.

Money raised by the 800 pupils at the school was then boosted a little further by the addition of Gift Aid, making the final donation to the Hospice of £10,641.04.

Pupils from the school chose to support the Hospice by raising money via their annual 10k sponsored walk. The walk saw pupils set off from their classrooms in Middleton for the 10km walk to Tandle Hill Park, Royton.

Staff members hlped the fundraising effort by purchasing t-shirts, which were worn to and from the countryside trek.

The top fundraisers in each year group then met with Springhill Hospice Community Fundraiser Lillie Winterbottom to pose for a picture with Head Teacher, Allison Crompton and Physical Education Teacher Neil Palmer, the walk organiser, at an official ‘Big Cheque’ donation ceremony.

Springhill Hospice is an organisation close to the hearts of many within the school and Middleton’s community. Providing a range of professional care services for those with life-limiting illnesses, 70% of the Hospice’s running costs come from local fundraising.

Lillie Winterbottom said: “Working with Middleton Technology School pupils and staff has been a great experience, with a fabulous financial outcome and a superb opportunity to raise awareness of the work the Hospice does.

“Every day for a week I gave a short assembly to each year group, telling them about our doctors and nurses, the ward, day hospice, community nurses and volunteers.

“The staff, pupils and their families should be very proud of their efforts. We’re honoured to have been chosen by the school and hope that we can keep close ties with them in the future, enabling our team to educate future generations.”
