The Lighthouse Project open day

Date published: 09 January 2016

The Lighthouse Project in Middleton held an open day (Saturday 9 January) as a way of showing the services they offer.

Carl Roach, Project Manager, said: “People often drive past us and know that we are here because they see us, but they don’t necessarily come in and know about what we do, so the open day was to allow people to come in and see what we do.”

Visitors to the open day could tour the Lighthouse Project to give them an understanding of the work that is undertaken.

“We have been quite busy actually and we have had a lot of people coming through the doors so the support has been there,” said Mr Roach.

Inspire Middleton, the charity that runs the Lighthouse Project, Middleton Central Foodbank and Middleton Dial are currently trying to find new premises due to being served notice by the new owners of their current home at Warwick Mill.

Mr Roach added: “At the minute we have until the 10 February but we are asking the new owners for a little bit longer. We have two premises that we are currently looking at to see if they will work for us.”

A petition has also been set up to encourage the new owners of Warwick Mill to allow the charity to stay in the mill. Online the petition has gained over 600 signatures and in paper form has received over 400 signatures.
