Hopwood Hall College Sports Arena has been commended for its community involvement by the National Fitness Awards.
These annual awards recognise the work put into place by sporting facilities in order to make a difference to their communities. Hopwood Hall College was shortlisted in the community involvement category.
The Sports Arena at Hopwood Hall College is not just for staff and students, the College encourages the whole community to use them.
The College has run a number of charity events, building partnerships and improving cohesion with the community.
The facility was recognised for working with the local police in establishing areas for local youths to play in a safe and friendly environment.
Paul Driver, Manager at The Sports Arena, said: “We have worked extensively within the community and worked hard to create a facility which is accessible to all.”
Terry Morley, Centre Director for Sport and Public Services, said, “This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our outstanding sporting facilities and work we do as an organisation with the local community.”
“We were the only College facility to be shortlisted in the whole of the UK and it was an appropriate accolade for all the hard work and dedication the staff has put in to making this a success.”
