Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk is facing an investigation into allegations made against him by his first wife, published at the weekend in the Mail on Sunday.
A Lancashire police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we have today received a report of a rape against a 49-year-old man.
"Inquiries are ongoing."
Mr Danczuk said: "These claims are malicious, untrue and extremely upsetting.
"The police have not been in touch with me but I will co-operate fully with any inquiries and am confident my name will be promptly cleared."
