Council leader expresses his 'heartfelt gratitude' in message to council staff

Date published: 31 December 2015

Councillor Richard Farnell, the leader of Rochdale Borough Council, has expressed his "sincere thanks and heartfelt gratitude" to staff who gave up their holidays to help with the flood relief effort.

Councillor Farnell's message...

Dear colleagues

For someone not normally lost for words, I do not know how to adequately express my sincere thanks and heartfelt gratitude to the scores of staff who volunteered to come into work over the holidays to assist with the flood relief effort.

Your efforts -along with other emergency services- have been Herculean. To leave your families and festive celebrations on Boxing Day and work round the clock for four solid days demonstrates local government at its very best.

The help and assistance you have all provided to the hundreds of families affected by the horror of having their home wrecked by the floods has been truly outstanding. On behalf every single Member of the Council, I cannot thank you enough. You truly are an amazing bunch of people. Your compassion and care for others knows no end.

I have received countless messages from victims, relatives and members of the public thanking council staff for their sterling work.

The work goes on to help those who need the vital assistance of our public services. However, I wanted to express my profound gratitude to each and every member of the council team who have done what we do best - selflessly serving the public. You have made a huge impact on the lives of hundreds of people.

Thank you so much.

My very best wishes,

Richard

Councillor Richard Farnell
Leader of the Council
