Woman threatened in home during burglary in Rochdale

Date published: 31 December 2015

A woman was threatened in her home during a burglary in Rochdale.

Sometime between 9.00am and 10.00am on Wednesday 30 December 2015, a woman in her 20s returned to her house on Oswald Street in Rochdale. She went inside and was confronted by a man, who threatened her, before stealing a number of items including a Samsung TV. He then left the property.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Andrew Duncan, from GMP’s Rochdale Division, said: “This was without doubt an extremely traumatic event for the woman involved, who was confronted and threatened in her own home.

“I have a number of detectives who are both providing support to this victim and also investigating this case thoroughly, with extra patrols also in operation in the area.

“Whilst an arrest has been made in connection with this incident, the investigation is very much ongoing and we are keen to hear from any witnesses, particularly residents in the Oswald Street and local community, for any information or sightings they may have of any activity they consider suspicious.

“I am specifically interested from around tea time on the evening of Tuesday 29 December through to the morning of Wednesday 30 December in or around Oswald Street.

“The man is described as tall and dark skinned, aged between 20 to 30 years, slim build and was wearing a black tracksuit with red and blue stripes down the side and a white stripe in the middle. The man also wore a black T shirt and waterproof coat.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Neighbourhood Policing Team at Rochdale police station on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
