Karen Danczuk's Christmas card advert breached Advertising Code

Date published: 30 December 2015

Karen Danczuk has had her knuckles rapped by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for breaching the Advertising Code.

Mrs Danczuk advertised Christmas cards for £10 each featuring photos that had been taken for The Sun newspaper for Christmas 2014. She declared in the advert that part of the proceeds would be donated to the RSPCA.

Amongst other conditions, the Advertising Code states that where advertisements include an offer to donate part of the proceeds of sales to charity the advertisement must specify what proportion of the consideration paid for the goods or services will be received by the charity for each sale made. Mrs Danczuk's advert did not.

A local resident, David Felton, said: "As it appeared Ms Danczuk was using a charity to promote sales for her own personal profit, and did not include in her advertising just how much or what percentage of sales would go to the RSPCA, I felt I had course to complain to the ASA."

The ASA assessed the advert and responding to Mr Felton said: "We think it likely to have breached the Advertising Codes that we administer. We are writing to let you know that we have taken steps to address this.

"We have explained your concerns to Ms Danczuk and provided guidance on the areas that require attention, together with advice on how to ensure that future advertising complies with the Codes."

Mrs Danczuk did not return our call.
