As part of learning ‘cultural heritage’ and developing knowledge and understanding of history, Deeplish Community Centre’s Cultural Study Group organised an awareness tour to British Muslim Heritage Centre in Manchester.

As part of their visit, members also organised an open day at the centre where they displayed their art work, made presentations and received trophies and certificates for their performances.

The open day was organised to raise awareness and provide information and awareness to children to learn about history, diverse cultures and British values.

More than 80 children and parents participated in the open day. Advice and information given to all parents on how to support their children in education and afterschool learning as well as knowing cultures and having respect for all faiths and British values.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We were pleased to see so many children, young people and parents participating in activities and learning together, giving importance in the children’s learning.

"We promote a safe, comfortable and friendly environment for all participants and it’s great to see kids learning, developing new skills and achieving well in afterschool activities and clubs.

"Children also received trophies, certificates for best performances, best behaviour and participation.”

Tutor Abdul Salam commented: “Our children are our future and we must ensure they develop skills, confidence to face future challenges when they will grow up to become leaders.

"We also ensure they have understanding for all cultures, faiths and respect for humanity and play an active role in promoting social harmony and peace across all culture and faiths.

"This project was supported by Rochdale Township and we are grateful for local councillors and parents in supporting this project and activities.”

Councillor Mohammed Zaman and Councillor Sameena Zaheer commented: “It’s always good to see Deeplish Community Centre providing safe, suitable and appropriate activities for young people and children.

“We see that every evening here at Deeplish Centre, children are learning in a safe, secure and well organised environment.
