Post Office staff to strike on Christmas Eve
Date published: 22 December 2015
Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) will strike from 12.30-4.30pm on Christmas Eve (Thursday) in a row over pay. The move will affect around 300 crown post offices across the country.
Post office bosses want staff to work until 4.30pm this year in line with other high street retailers, with staff regularly paid until 5.30pm on Christmas Eve.
The union claims employees have been allowed to leave between noon and 1pm on Christmas Eve for the past 50 years and there is no call for the extra working hours this year.
Union members were balloted at the start of the month and out of a 60 per cent turnout, a massive 90 per cent voted in favour of taking industrial action.
