Many of us have experienced the frustration of a cancelled or delayed flight, but now local solicitors Johnson Law are helping holidaymakers to claim compensation for their inconvenience.

Thanks to EU regulation 261/2004, airlines carrying passengers within Europe are required to compensate customers if their flight is cancelled, overbooked or held up for more than three hours.

Carl Cranham, from Johnson Law, said: “Every year thousands of travellers are left distressed and out of pocket by airlines. Unfortunately they often dismiss customers who contact them directly to complain. We will act on behalf of anyone who feels they are entitled to compensation.”

The regulation also applies retrospectively and can be applied to flights going back up to 7 years.

Mr Cranham adds: “If you’ve been affected by a cancelled or delayed flight in this time, you could qualify for a payout, but please be aware that you will not be eligible for compensation if the delay or cancellation was the result of extraordinary circumstances. This could be an industrial strike, severe weather or a security issue. Technical faults are sometimes also considered extraordinary circumstances.”
