Over 80 Christmas events listed in the Rochdale Online events section
The Christmas festivities have well and truly kicked off in Rochdale with more to come over the next few weeks. If you have missed some of the activities that have passed, then there is still something festive for you to get involved with. Whether you fancy viewing a Christmas display or singing along to your favourite carols, Rochdale Online will have an event listed for you.
Wardle Village Church will be hosting carols in Wardle library from 10:30am on Saturday 14 December. The event is free and everyone is invited to join inwith festivities by singing along to some well known Christmas carols.
Christmas quizzes are also being held throughout the borough. The Christingle Quiz held at St Martin's Church, Castleton kicks off at 6:30pm on Sunday 15 December and aims to have everyone making their own Christingle by the end of the night.
If you fancy something a bit different than traditional Christmas events, you can celebrate Rochdale’s countryside at Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre from Tuesday 17 December to Friday 3 January. The exhibition will celebrate the great things achieved by rangers and friends groups throughout the borough in 2013.
Carol Concerts are being held during the run up to Christmas. If you want to attend a concert during the week, Holy Trinity Parish Church, Middleton is holding their carol concert on Wednesday 18 December at 7:30pm.The concert will be led by the Middleton Music Society and is a free event.
If you want to wait until the weekend then Sunday 22 December is packed full of carol concerts. Wardle Village Church is holding a Candle Lit Carol Service from 3:00pm and Trinity Methodist Church, Heywood is holding a Family Christmas Carol Service from 10:30am.
If you are too busy trying to finish your Christmas shopping this week, then don’t worry, the festive events continue. The Butts in Rochdale Town Centre will play host to Ice Rinks and Log Cabins for the final weekend before Christmas. All you need to do is show a receipt to the value of £5 for goods purchased in Rochdale Town centre during the month of December and you can skate for free. The log cabins which will be located around the ice rink will provide you with Christmas food and drink and the chance to buy any last minute presents.
The Chimera Opera Christmas Concert also takes place on Saturday 21 December at Spotland Methodist Church from 7:30pm. An evening of Christmas music and readings will be performed by Rochdale’s leading opera group.
Rochdale Central Library is also getting into the Christmas Spirit by inviting children along for Children’s Nativity Story Time. The session is free on Monday 23 December at 2:30pm and also includes festive craft activities for children to get involved with.
Finally, what would Christmas be without a pantomime? Pantomimes are being held throughout Rochdale during the Christmas period with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs running until Christmas Eve at Middleton Arena, Cinderella is also running until Christmas Eve at Heywood Civic Centre and Aladdin is running until New Year's Eve at the Gracie Fields theatre.
For those who want to attend Midnight Mass, St Andrew's, Dearnley, St Martin's, Castleton, Rochdale Parish Church of St Chad and St Mary in the Baum all have their events listed on Rochdale online. All services start at 11:30pm except St Andrew's which starts at 11pm.
