Merry Christmas - Here's a Water Buffalo

Date published: 17 December 2004

The Partners of Molesworths Bright Clegg have decided not to send Christmas Cards to their thousands of private and business clients this year.

They do wish everyone a very merry christmas and a happy and prosperous 2005.

The firm has decided that with the money saved by not sending out individual Christmas Cards they will benefit a subsistence farmer in the third world by giving a Water Buffalo.

The firm was put in touch with "World Vision" by a contact at the Oldham and Rochdale Groundwork Trust.

The Water Buffalo is a gift which will be shared by up to 30 families (150 people) and provides a great way to boost their crop yields year on year and more food means better health and a chance to increase their family income.

These powerful creatures can plough through mud that would stall a tractor in minutes. They take narrow terraces on steep mountains in stride. They feed on crop residue and yield milk and manure. They pull cart loads of crops to market with ease.

A gift of a Water Buffalo can lighten the load of a struggling family in countries like Northern India, Nepal, Cambodia and the Philippines.

John Kay, Senior Partner in the firm says "A Water Buffalo is not just for Christmas – it is a gift for life".
