This week saw a milestone in the history of Rochdale Online serving the local community with news as the 40,000th article made its way into the Rochdale Online news database.

The news section of the Rochdale Online website has been the driver behind the huge growth in audience, particularly over the past few years:

• 2011 - 58,562

Rochdale Online Managing Director Pauline Journeaux said: "I watched as Malcolm put his first Rochdale Online page online back in 1998 and to be honest could never have imagined the site would become the huge success it has.

"It shows a trusted, independent source of local news remains very important and Rochdale Online is proud to serve our community in that role."

The news search facility provides a valuable historical archive of local news over the past 13 years.
