The Chocolate Bar closes

Date published: 12 August 2015

The Chocolate Bar on Yorkshire Street in Rochdale Town Centre has closed. The bar, which opened in April, has closed due to a number of factors, including cost.

Owner Martin Ballard said: “Sadly it has closed and has closed for good. It just wasn’t making the progress that I wanted it to and we made the decision that it was best to close.

“Following the break-in we had, there were costs from that and then things weren’t covered on the insurance, so there was another cost and we just decided that it was time to close.

“We gave it a good shot and if someone else had come along and had done what we did and it had worked then I would have been annoyed that we didn’t try. I can say that we did our best, I put my own money into it and lost my own money and we had good support from the local community, but sadly, there just wasn’t enough support.”

This is the fourth business in the past two years using the building to close. 25Ten Boutique moved out of the building in April 2013, The Feel Good Café and The Rochdale Emporium closed in February 2015.

The Chocolate Bar building was also the home to the office of Red Cape Marketing, a separate company owned by Mr Ballard. Red Cape Marketing is now moving offices and hoping to be in new space at Moss Mill as soon as possible.
