Fowler Welch raise over £22,500 for Epilepsy Research UK
Fowler Welch, the ambient and chilled food delivery specialists, has raised over £22,500 for Epilepsy Research UK.
Epilepsy Research UK was selected as their charity of the year after one of their colleagues in the Heywood depot died aged 32 in 2013 of complications from the condition.
A series of activities was organised to raise money, including coffee mornings, a Christmas jumper day and the Big Bike Challenge, and staff also took part in organised events such as the Manchester Big Fun Run.
Fowler Welch managing director Nick Hay said, “Last year – 2014/15 – saw many events take place to help raise this substantial amount.
"It was fantastic to see staff from all eight of our depots nationwide getting involved in the fundraising with events such as, triathlons, golf events, coffee mornings and our biggest event, ‘The Big Bike Challenge’ which saw 50 colleagues, customers and suppliers, cycle 726 miles from our Newton Abbot depot in Devon to Washington in Tyne-n-wear, via our depots in Southampton, Portsmouth, Paddock Wood, Teynham, Spalding and Heywood. It took us a week but was great fun and a real challenge and I’m proud of everyone who got involved.”
Jo Finnerty, Events Fundraiser for Epilepsy Research UK, added: “A heart felt thanks to the team at Fowler Welch who raised the amazing total of over £22,500! We are thrilled with the amount, it is a fantastic achievement and was great to see every get behind the challenge. We are entirely dependent upon donations to fund our research awards and this money will really make a difference so thank you to everyone at Fowler Welch.”
