Fire kills, you can prevent it!

Date published: 25 June 2008

On Thursday 3 July, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale will be holding a Fire Marshal training event for local businesses of all sizes, ensuring companies comply with current legislation and are up to date with Fire Marshal techniques.

This session is aimed at training workplace Fire Marshals or Fire Wardens in their areas of responsibility such as, how to effectively liaise with fire and other emergency services, how to undertake evacuations and premises checks, as well as the evacuation of persons with disabilities. There will also be practical demonstrations on how to use fire extinguishers.

Oliver Smallman, Groundwork Business Advisor, comments: "Often the workplace can prove to be a dangerous place. Each year thousands of people suffer burns caused by the uncontrolled ignition of flammable chemicals and other materials they work with. For this reason alone, The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all employers, business owners or those in control of a premises, to ensure that your employees are provided with adequate safety training."

The event is taking place at the Environment Centre, Shaw Road, Oldham from 9:15 am to 12:00 pm and, as always, refreshments will be provided. Organisations are responsible for appointing and training staff as Fire Marshals.
