Rochdale’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate, Simon Danczuk, has voiced fears that the lack of support for businesses in Rochdale is creating a mood of anti-business across our Borough.
Following reports that The Enterprise Factory, based on Spotland Road, is due to have its funding pulled, the Labour Candidate has called on Rochdale Council to give assurances that it is not reducing support for business start-ups in our town.
“Helping people start businesses is critical to Rochdale’s economic success, it’s about people getting into work and also creating job opportunities for others,” he stressed. “I’d be very disappointed if the Council are reducing the support for business start-ups in our town. We already have one of the lowest business start-up rates in Greater Manchester, so the last thing we need to do is reduce the support we are giving to entrepreneurs.
“What alarms me is that the Enterprise Factory had public investment only 12 months ago to get it up and running and now the rug is being pulled from under it – what sort of long term planning is going into how we spend the public money our town receives?
“I’m also worried for the business people that the Enterprise Factory is currently helping. I’m a business man myself and I know how difficult it is to keep a company going, what provision is being made to help these people continue with their businesses?”
