British Millerain move to Kingsway

Date published: 22 May 2008

As reported earlier this week by Rochdale Online, British Millerain have completed the purchase of Broadshaw Farm, the Grade II listed building on Kingsway Business Park. Plans have been submitted to covert the farm into 3,950 sq ft of office space, providing British Millerain with a new headquarters in Rochdale.

The move follows successful negotiations with the Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) for the acquisition of their existing facility after British Millerain’s current location at Belfield Road was identified for Housing Market Renewal; the move will safeguard 17 jobs.

The company specialises in the manufacture of specialist fabrics and is the third occupier to relocate to Kingsway Business Park, following deals with Vindon Healthcare and Takeuchi MFG (UK).

Rob Green, Kingsway operations director, comments: “Keeping British Millerain in Rochdale was a priority for the NWDA and RDA. The site at Kingsway Business Park fits their requirements perfectly and also meets our objective to find a new use for this attractive listed building, serving to enhance the diversity of buildings at Kingsway Business Park. When the time is right, we shall be looking for similar opportunities to secure business occupiers for the other listed buildings that remain within the business park.”

Kingsway is one of the 25 major employment sites the NWDA has formally designated as strategically important to the region. It is working closely with the private sector to bring these forward for development.
