Can you help Redwood Real Work Project?

Date published: 03 April 2014

Redwood Real Work Project started in September 2013 as a new programme helping young people with learning disabilities gain valuable work experience.

In the first year 17 pre and full time interns have been based at the Council, Rochdale Infirmary, Fairfield Hospital and local businesses, and the interns are learning many new skills to enable them to gain sustainable paid employment.

Three of the placements are in cafes and although much development work has been completed within the maths curriculum, it is now realised that interns need to develop number and money skills. As part of this development process students need to practice using cash tills.

A Redwood spokesperson said: "We realise that there are a variety of different types of tills but in present placements we have found that they are touch screens.

"In order for our interns to be better prepared we are looking to borrow a till from a local business so we can teach how to use a till giving change and associated customer service skills.

"If you are able to help we would be delighted to hear from you and your support will help give these young people a fantastic start for their future careers."
