Date published: 27 February 2014

Mike Mason has been confirmed as Finance Director for Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. Mike has been in post in an interim capacity, since the departure of former FD, Joanne Rowe in April 2013.

Chamber Chief Executive, Clive Memmott, said: “It’s terrific to be able to welcome Mike to the Senior Team in a permanent capacity. His wealth of experience and insight has been invaluable during this hugely important transitional time for us. Under his watchful eye, the Chamber’s finances are in good shape to be able to continue to grow our service offer and our membership.”

Mike Mason said: “This is a great time to be working at Greater Manchester Chamber. The next couple of years are vital for us to build upon the major structural changes we have already put in place and take the Chamber to the next level and I’m very proud to be playing a key role at this exciting time.”

Mike, who originates from the East coast of Yorkshire, has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for over 40 years, with a career to date which has included working with food equipment manufacturers Baker-Perkins in Peterborough. At Baker-Perkins he rose to the position of Financial Controller, before moving into general management, running several businesses within the group, (now called APV-Baker) manufacturing equipment for the confectionery, cereal and snacks industries.

In 1995 one of his divisions was awarded the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement following several years of consistent export growth. Managing Director jobs at Kemutec Group and Farrel Ltd followed along with some consulting projects, it was whilst doing this project work that he became involved with the Chamber. Mike is married with two children.

Over the last year, as the Chamber’s Interim Finance Director, Mike has already been involved with the design and implementation of the Chamber’s new IT system and is closely involved with the company’s strategic development. He is concentrating on delivering a strong, commercial structure to support the Chamber’s extensive and growing array of services.
