Northern Employment Services celebrate 20 years of service

Date published: 14 November 2013

Northern Employment Services will be celebrate 20 years of servicing the business community and the people throughout the Rochdale borough this year.

Since the business opened in 1993, the company has gained a first class reputation with a wide range of companies from SMEs to blue chip, for the supply of permanent,
temporary and contract staff, to both private and public sectors in the commercial, logistics, industrial, manufacturing, engineering, technical, management, finance and
professional service sectors.

Joan Pooley, director and co-owner of the business, said: “We have always believed inthe people of Rochdale and over our 20 years we estimate that we have helped find work for over 100,000 people from the Borough, and at peak we have employed over 900 temporary staff every week in a variety of different roles.”

Northern Employment Services has been Investors in People (IIP) accredited since 2006 and Joan says they believe a skilled, empowered team is the main driver for making a successful and profitable business.

Gabrielle Owen, an IIP assessor, said: “It is clear that the senior team are wholly committed to its staff and the success of the business with much focus on giving
excellent service to the client”

Like many companies, Northern Employment Services' business was affected by the recession over the last few years, but by "gritting their teeth" through the economic storm, the company maintained and developed their reputation which kept them in business while several of their competitors disappeared.

The company revised their business strategy, adjusted their marketing plan, reduced their overheads, rolled up their sleeves and turned the business round. This turnaround has meant that during 2013 Northern Employment Services have expanded geographically and is now operating on a national basis from their office in Rochdale.

Northern Employment Services has an active involvement in the Borough, providing career workshops, building partnership links with Hopwood Hall College and working with many support organisations using their experience and expertise to help young people and the unemployed back into employment.

“We are well respected in the business community for making a significant contribution to the local economy and after two decades we are still totally committed to the people of Rochdale,” said Joan.
