Mayor and Mayoress visit Yearsley Group

Date published: 13 November 2013

Mayor and Mayoress Peter and Monica Rush were welcomed at the Heywood head office of the Yearsley Group and enjoyed a tour of a new extension and also meeting the latest recruits; a number of apprentices working within the logistics, finance and I.T. departments.

Managing Director Harry Yearsley said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress to Heywood, especially as they are locals. We have hopefully shown them our commitment to investing in our facilities, technology and our people to deliver a sustainable future for our business”.

Mayor Peter Rush said “It is great to see another major investment part complete in the borough and to meet the apprentices who will potentially shape the future workforce of the business.”

The latest build is the first phase of a three part expansion, which, will eventually double the cold store’s existing capacity from 40,000 to 80,000 pallet sites.

This is also the first of their sites to use a fully automated cart system, which greatly reduces running costs and its environmental impact.

The expansion has allowed the company to create a northern ‘superhub’, where stock will be consolidated for more efficient delivery into the UK’s major retailers and food service clients.

The transport apprentices will spend time working across the planning and day to day transport operations, learning about customer service, legal compliance, sustainability and efficiency.

The IT and Finance apprentices are now continuing with work based learning under a Yearsley Group mentor and a college tutor, all leading to an NVQ qualification.
