Three new businesses have opened on Whitworth Road, Rochdale offering diversity and variety to the local community - For Your Best Friend, Cake ‘N’ Shake and Lockwood Sales and Lettings, have all opened their businesses within weeks of each other.

For Your Best Friend is an animal feed and supplies shop. Owner Gillian Taylor said: “We have been open for 15 months but have been in this location for two weeks. Business has certainly picked up since we have been in this new location.”

The shop can cater to whatever the customer needs and Gillian added: “If you want it, Ill do my best to get it. I’m getting cat food, dog food, rabbit food and looking into getting reptile food. I offer reasonable prices and am usually cheaper than other places.”

Next door, Cake N Shake has been open for three months and is a milkshake and dessert business that now also offers a hot food menu.

Mohammed Nurani opened the business after working at a local restaurant and getting the idea for his shop. He said: “My old boss used to offer posh steak and a shake so, I opened my own place and called it Cake N Shake.”

The shop currently employs four staff members and is open every day 12-10.

Mohammed added: “We are very popular and have people of all ages coming in.”

The sales and lettings business is the third business for Zabina who also runs an accident claims company and a medical company.

Zabina added: “I was always interested in buying and selling properties so I decided it was time provide a service for other people.”

Zabina hopes to be able to expand one day. She said: “We will be looking to expand in the future but we’re going to see how the first few weeks go first.”

All three businesses believe that they are bringing something different to their local community.

Mohammed said: “It is interesting for the community because there is nothing like all three shops.”

Zabina said: “They are so different and so new.”
