How resource efficiency can help your business

Date published: 12 January 2008

Does it all seem a waste of time?  Well worry no more, for Groundwork Oldham amp; Rochdale wish to extend an invitation to all businesses to attend the launch of our ‘How2’ series beginning with carbon foot printing at The Bower  Hotel  on Thursday 24 January.  Join our Environmental Business Services team for breakfast and refreshments, free of charge, and discover ‘How2: Assess Your Carbon Footprint’.

The event corresponds with the unveiling of new resource efficiency programme that has been made possible, as  ENWORKS, the environmental business support service, has received approval for a £6 million investment from the  Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to deliver resource efficiency savings to businesses in the Northwest.  Groundwork Oldham amp; Rochdale are delighted to continue as a delivery partner, upholding their excellent position when it comes to helping the local businesses in Oldham amp; Rochdale make environmental practice profitable.

TBA Textiles is one firm that has benefited from resource efficiency savings achieved with support from ENWORKS delivered by Groundwork Oldham amp; Rochdale EBS team.  The company develops and manufactures high performance, industrial textiles for primary industries and arduous environments with 90employees working from its site in Rochdale.  Annual cost savings of over£21, 650 have been achieved by reducing energy consumption mainly through educating staff and running an energy awareness raising campaign.  With barely any outlay  of  money, these energy-saving measures have saved the company  significant sums of money leading to reductions in electricity use by  29%, which in turn has reduced their emission of CO2 by over 115 tonnes each  year.  Jack  Binns,  Business  Co-ordinator  for  TBA Textiles adds, “Working closely with Groundwork over the past 6 years has ensured we aware of  energy saving measures and are advised on actions that not only benefit the  environment,  but  also  benefit our finances. Our membership has been invaluable.”

Todd Holden, Programme Director for ENWORKS, said: “ENWORKS has demonstrated that managing your environmental impact  can deliver a significant boost to your bottom line. Companies in the Northwest are now saving over £14million every year as a result of ENWORKS’ assistance. The NWDA’s continued support will ensure that thousands more companies can reap the benefits of resource efficiency savings. This is great news for the environment and for the competitiveness of the region.”

“If your business wants to reap part of the millions of pounds in savings available then the ‘How2: Assess Your Carbon Footprint’ event is a great way of introducing the concept of resource efficiency in a simple and interactive  way,” explains Victoria Handforth, Environmental Business Advisor at Groundwork Oldham amp; Rochdale. “Delegates attending the carbon foot printing event will have the opportunity to take part in a number of workshops,  culminating in the development of an action plan detailing low and no cost initiatives that have the potential to  facilitate cost savings.”
