Former nurse heads up BMI the Highfield Hospital

Date published: 01 May 2013

A Rochdale Hospital has bolstered its management structure with the introduction of a new Executive Director and senior team.

Marge Falconer, 49, a former nurse, is bringing her frontline experience to the top job at BMI The Highfield Hospital.

Ms Falconer spent just under a decade working for the NHS, starting out as a nurse and then moving into senior management. She became the Executive Director of BMI The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate six years ago before moving into her current position at BMI The Highfield Hospital.

With both a clinical and managerial background, Ms Falconer is in good stead for the role of Executive Director at the private hospital on Manchester Road.

She comments: “Having worked as a nurse, before moving into management, I’ve seen a lot of changes in the profession. However, the one thing that has remained with me is an unfaltering devotion to care. Being a nurse has given me a strong patient focus and they are at the heart of everything I do. I’m committed to providing the highest standard of patient–centred care at BMI The Highfield Hospital.

“I understand the pressures of the job, so can take this into account when making business decisions at BMI The Highfield Hospital. Supporting the staff ultimately leads to a better patient experience.”

Bringing her varied experience to the role, Ms Falconer will be working with the new senior team, and wider team at the hospital, to develop and promote the benefits of private healthcare.

Joining Ms Falconer at the Rochdale hospital are Hannah Woolaghan, Director of Nursing, Hannah Edwards, Director of Operations and Theatre Manager, Anne Duxbury.

Ms Falconer says: “At BMI Highfield Hospital, we are looking to improve the already high level of patient care and ensure all of our patients have a speedy recovery in a top quality, comfortable and friendly setting.”

Director of Nursing, Hannah Woolaghan adds: “Nobody wants to stay in hospital longer than they need to, so our experienced consultants provide treatments which offer patients the best possible outcome, while our devoted nurses and physiotherapists provide the best aftercare to help get them home sooner.”

Ms Falconer is also overseeing a £100k refurbishment of the Outpatient Department and a new treatment room at BMI The Highfield Hospital.
