Date published: 18 March 2008
In January, heavy rain lead to flooding in certain parts of the town centre leaving some businesses in crisis.
If your business is affected by flooding in the future, please phone Rochdale Council on 0845 1212975.
Tips to protect your business from flooding:
- Assess how much damage a flood might cause.
- Check the chance of flooding in your area by using the Flood Map on the Environment Agency website.
- If you are at the bottom of a hill you should undertake a more detailed risk assessment for your premises.
- Draw up a flood plan, including lists of contacts, maps and key procedures.
- Ensure that you have sufficient insurance cover.
- It sounds simple, but store expensive items higher up from the ground.
- If necessary, invest in flood protection products.
- If you are part of a national company, get as much information as you can from head office about what to do in case of flooding.
- Train employees to deal with flooding.
