Budget 2013 - Key points for employers
Date published: 21 March 2013
There was some good news for employers with the introduction from 2014 of a new Employment Allowance – hailed by the Chancellor as the biggest tax relief announced in this budget, say RSM Tenon.
Other announcements included the introduction of income tax and NI relief on the new Employee Share Ownership Scheme and a consultation on the funding of a CGT relief on the sale of a controlling interest in a business to an employee ownership structure.
Top Budget tips for Employers:
- Consider whether the new Employee Share Ownership plan is appropriate
- Don’t forget the advantages of EMI arrangements, particularly given the changes to Entrepreneurs’ relief at 10% for employees with EMI options
- Review loans to employees in light of doubling of the de minimus allowance to £10,000
- For employees caught by the High Income Child Benefit Charge, consider whether salary sacrifice arrangements would help employees especially with pension contributions
