Chamber announces new Rochdale President

Date published: 06 March 2013

Delphine Greenhalgh of DG Consultancy has been named as the next Rochdale President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

The official handover from former President, Peter Carey of Sedgwick Legal, took place at the latest of the Chamber’s Action for Business networking forums at the Norton Grange Hotel, Rochdale.

Delphine paid tribute to Peter, who has been Rochdale President of the Chamber for the last four years. She said: “I have very large shoes to fill. I have known Peter for about three or four years and know how passionate he is about Rochdale and its business community. He has been a fundamental part of the Chamber’s Local Council in Rochdale and I look forward to continuing to work with him throughout my term as President.”

The Rochdale Presidential role lasts for two years, after which Delphine will be succeeded by Chris Stern, of Christopher Stern Associates Ltd, who this month starts his role as Vice President.

Commenting on her ambitions as President, Delphine said: “Rochdale is a great place to live, work and do business. We have a lot of innovative businesses here in the borough that are successful and achieving fantastic things in their respective fields. There are a lot of opportunities out there and I urge businesses to make the most of them and use the Chamber for support along the way.

"I hope to get to know many of our Rochdale members over the next couple of years and play my part in supporting the business community, both here in the borough, and further afield.”

The role of Rochdale President includes chairing the Chamber’s Local Council meetings, hosting events and representing the views of members in the borough at a Greater Manchester level.

Clive Memmott, Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, also paid tribute to outgoing President, Peter Carey. He said: “I would like to thank Peter for his dedication to the role of Rochdale President over the last four years. It has been a pleasure to work with him and wish him continued success in his business activities. I am delighted that he will remain on the Chamber’s Local Council in Rochdale, which will inevitably benefit from his keen business insights and balanced approach.”

Clive continued: “Delphine is a huge asset to the Chamber and we’re thrilled to have her on board. In particular, her marketing experience and international background with the manufacturing and engineering sectors, will help to focus on those areas. I wish her every success in her new role as Rochdale President of the Chamber and look forward to working with her in the weeks and months to come.”
