Brimar hits financial trouble

Date published: 14 November 2012

Administrators have been called in at Brimar Limited.

Brimar, which employs 90 people at the Chadderton Industrial Estate in Middleton, provides displays, components and associated electronics for the avionics and surface combat industries and is a specialist Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) manufacturer.

Founded in 1922, Brimar has previously been owned by other companies including Marconi and currently delivers a wide variety of solutions, including specialist systems used in the detection of improvised explosive devices.

All employees have been retained at this time. The joint administrators — Tony Nygate and Dermot Power — will continue to trade the company with a view to selling it as a going concern in the near future.

Mr Power said: “Unfortunately, the economic climate and difficult trading conditions have adversely affected the business, and it has been necessary to take steps to safeguard creditors.

“We are pro-actively reviewing all the options for the future of the company and our immediate priority will be to ensure that business continues as usual over the coming weeks and that the production of strategically important products for customers in the defence and security sectors continues with minimal disruption.”
