Chamber criticises relief cap on charity donations

Date published: 20 April 2012

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is writing a letter to the Chancellor about his plans to cap the relief people can claim for charity donations.

His proposal to limit the amount of tax relief an individual can claim to £50,000 per year – or 25% of their income – whichever is the higher has been widely criticised.

The Government will consult further in the Summer.

Charities, philanthropists and universities are campaigning for the Chancellor to reverse his plan, and the Chamber is keen to speak to any of their charity member businesses for their views as well to inform their response to the upcoming consultation.
