Rochdale Business Awards: Business of the Year

Date published: 21 September 2011

The count down is on the Rochdale Business Awards 2011 and budding business men and women, young entrepreneurs and proud business owners are being encouraged to put themselves forward for one of the nine categories.

Nominations for the awards can be made until Friday (23 September).

Rochdale Online has been focusing on the various award categories and this week, in the final instalment, we will explain the Business of the Year Awards and the varying entry levels for this award.

There are three awards relating to Business of the Year. They are:

  • Business of the Year (turnover more than £5m)
  • Business of the Year (turnover £1m - £5m)
  • Business of the Year (turnover under £1m)

Business of the Year (turnover more than £5m) The winning business will have a turnover in excess of £5 million and must be able to demonstrate outstanding leadership and vision and a successful performance against its objectives.

Businesses operating in any commercial or industrial sector will be considered but the judges are looking for evidence of exceptional growth and/or increased trading profit, success in finding new import/export opportunities, new product/service development and/or new production techniques.

Business of the Year (turnover £1m - £5m)
In this category the winner will be a business whose turnover was less than £5 million in its 2010 year-end accounts. The judges will be looking for evidence of improvement or excellence in similar areas to those set out above.

Business of the Year (turnover under £1m)
In this category the winner will be a business whose turnover was less than £1 million in its 2010 year-end accounts. The judges will be looking for evidence of improvement or excellence in similar areas to those set out above.

Helen Senior, from Jackson Jackson, the event’s main sponsor, said: “We are a local family run business and we believe very strongly in Rochdale, the businesses and residents within it.

“It is tough for businesses presently and this event is an opportunity for them to come together and celebrate their efforts and successes – winning business awards helps to boost moral and brings teams together within businesses.”

Ms Senior added: “We decided to be the main sponsor to help give local businesses this opportunity and show support for our town.

“Any proceeds from the night will be donated to Springhill Hospice, who as a business we support as our main charity.”

The winners will be unveiled at a glamorous awards ceremony on 4 November at the Rochdale Town Hall.
