Rochdale Business Awards: Environmental Award & Business Co-operation Award

The count down is on the Rochdale Business Awards 2011 and budding business men and women, young entrepreneurs and proud business owners are being encouraged to put themselves forward for one of the nine categories.

Nominations for the awards can be made until 23 September and until then Rochdale Online will focus on the different categories, explaining exactly what the judging panel are looking for.

The nine categories for this year’s awards are: Business Man of the Year, Business Woman of the Year, Young Entrepreneur, Start-up Business, Environmental Award, Business Co-operation Award, Business of the Year (turnover more than £5m), Business of the Year (turnover £1m - £5m) and Business of the Year (turnover under £1m).

The winners of each category will be unveiled at a glamorous awards ceremony on 4 November at the Rochdale Town Hall and the nominations are currently the talk of the town.

Environmental Award
This award will recognise a company or individual who has shown the greatest awareness of environmental issues, including energy saving and sustainability as well as raising awareness of important environmental issues in today’s business. By - 

  • Reducing the amount of waste disposed of to landfill by minimising waste at source re-using, recycling or composting;
  • Increasing the amount of energy generated from renewable sources and/or improved energy efficiency;
  • Creating or enhancing wildlife habitats;
  • Reducing pollution to air, water or land;
  • Reducing carbon footprint(s);
  • Improving resource efficiency through better design or improved efficiency. 

Business Co-operation Award
This award will recognise a business of any size that has made a committed and pro-active contribution to their local community.

This could be by providing a service that is vital to the community or donating the time and expertise of employees to give real, practical support to the neighbourhood in which they are based.
