Award triumph for construction firm

Date published: 28 July 2011

Rochdale-based construction firm, Jackson Jackson and Sons, is celebrating after gaining Chartered status and winning an SME of the Year award.

Jackson Jackson and Sons, a family-owned company, undertakes new build and refurbishment projects working directly with both the construction and social housing sectors.

In a time that has been difficult for many contractors, the construction company has gone from strength to strength. It has achieved the esteemed Chartered Building Company status, awarded by the Institute of Building’s Chartered Building Company Scheme.

To qualify as a Chartered Building Company, Jackson Jackson and Sons needed three of its directors to become chartered professionals.

Following twelve months of hard work, with support from Procure Plus, three Directors, three Contracts Managers and the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager, all achieved Chartered CIOB status, and thus the company was granted Chartered Building Company status.

Beverley Sexton, Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager at Jackson Jackson and Sons, said: “Gaining Chartered Building Company status has been a massive achievement, especially for a company of our size.

“It demonstrates our compliance to raising professionalism and skill throughout the organisation and gives our customers assurance that we’re committed to delivering the best quality and value in our work.”

Adding to its run of success, Jackson Jackson and Sons also won the acclaimed SME of the year at the fifth annual North West regional construction awards ceremony, held at Chester Racecourse.

The SME of the Year award, for construction-related companies employing fewer than 250 people, recognises a significant impact on the industry in the North West over the previous year and strong prospects for future growth.

In addition to achieving this prestigious title, the firm has recently celebrated the success of one of its trainees, who has been recognised locally and regionally as a top apprentice in his sector.

Jack Wimbush, a 20-year-old apprentice roofer from Rochdale was named ‘Best in Occupation’ for roofing at Bolton College’s annual awards ceremony. Following this, Mr Wimbush won the regional Skillbuild competition and will now be competing at the National Finals later this year.
