Life is sweet for Sugar Lounge owner

Date published: 12 May 2011

A Rochdale man who has always dreamed of starting his own business is celebrating the opening of his new restaurant.

Orangeabe Akhtar, 38, set out with an idea to offer the people of Rochdale something different, not just food, but an environment that couldn’t be matched anywhere else.

Mr Akhtar’s dream was to serve Halal food and have a unique style of decoration and experience.

He said: “I saw a gap in the Rochdale market and wanted to offer a unique experience mixed with quality food”.

He soon set out looking for a suitable premise and took part in a catering and hospitality course, followed by a course in food safety/health and safety.

Following months of training and hard work Mr Akhtar’s restaurant, The Sugar Lounge, based on Bailie Street, opened its doors earlier this year.
